GOD IS EVERYWHERE, EVEN IN WORLD LITERATURE

We are all God's children, created with love, and destined for a purpose that we do not yet know. All that we know is all that we can hope, dream, and have known. God knows what our tomorrow holds and how our future unfolds, but we do not. We must simply have faith that what we are doing at this exact moment is all part of His greater plan.
At this point in time, I am enjoying learning about world literature in a college course taught by Dr. Albert C. Sears of Silver Lake College of the Holy Family. He is taking our class on a literary journey around the world! Dr. Sears hopes that we students will discover the excitement of world literature through exploring the many meanings of life. I hope that I approach the literature with an open mind, but I do not want to be easily persuaded.
My goal is to learn about how others view life, and to learn something from their experiences. Dr. Sears also hopes to enhance our knowledge of recognizing literary genres, themes, and topics found in world literature. This is a hope of mine as well.
You would think that as a Theology and English major, I would excel in the use of literary techniques, but you could say that I have a lot of room for improvement. It is impossible to explore all of the topics that world literature contains; however, so far, I am happy that Dr. Sears has chosen some great works. I may have spent too much time reflecting on the themes of Tao Te Ching, but I have enjoyed doing so.

Let’s keep this journey going! God is with us, and I pray that the Holy Spirit may open our hearts to a deeper knowledge of God’s love in the world through the exploration of world literature!

WE NEVER WALK ALONE

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
                             when I was suffering from
                         anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
      "You promised me Lord,
         that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
                                 there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"

                                 The Lord replied,
                          "The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints,
          is when I carried you."
